DARCHULA, Feb 7: Residents of northern mountainous Rapla Village Development Committee (VDC)-5, which is 13-km away from district headquarters Khalanga, have been deprived of access to pure drinking water for the past three years.

Locals have been away from the access to drinking water when the water project could not get executed due to sheer negligence on the part of drinking water project committee. [break]

The project stated to be implemented at the total cost of Rs. 6.2 million including the financial assistance worth Rs. 6.8 million by RADAR – an organization working for drinking water – and Rs. 400,000 by VDC saw setback due to ignorance of the committee.

Locals of Rapla VDC-5, Maal have been compelled to fetch drinking water from well with a walking distance of two hours for the past three years.

The victims have accused the District Administration Office and District Drinking Water Office of showing deaf ear to the genuine demands of people despite approaching for several times.
