KATHMANDU, July 21: Braving incessant rain, scores of youths staged a sit-in near the parliament building, New Baneshwor in support of Dr Govinda KC who is on a fast-unto-death for the last 12 days.
Covering their mouth with a black band, the protesters satirized the 601 lawmakers, who they said are mum over the demands raised by Dr KC.
The participants were carrying placards with messages - ‘We 601 lawmakers are together with the brokers and mafia. Thus, we have kept mum on pro-people issues.’ The sit-in that started from 10:30 am, was attended by medical students, writers and people from different walks of life.
The sit-in was staged near Everest Hotel as the area outside the parliament is a restricted zone.
Police in large numbers were mobilized in New Baneshwor area and the law enforcement agency had barricaded the area beyond New Baneshwor Chowk.
