Aryal was acquitted by the Special Court in a case filed by the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) on June 23, on charges of being involved in corruption in the printing of excise duty stickers.

Following his acquittal by the Special Court, Aryal had returned to government service, with his suspension being lifted.

Both Dr Baikuntha Aryal and Eknarayan Aryal are holding the post of special category Chief Secretary or equivalent in the government bureaucracy. In this situation, according to the decision of the Council of Ministers on June 24, Aryal was given approval for the special post created at the NPC.

The government had created a special position at the NPC  to replace the then chief secretary Lokman Singh Karki 18 years ago. Similarly, the Cabinet meeting held on June 24 created a special position equivalent to the rank of Chief Secretary at the NPC for Dr Baikuntha Aryal.
