KATHMANDU, Feb 3: Dr Anjani Kumar Jha has been elected as the new chairman of Nepal Medical Association (NMA) in its 28th election held between January 30 to February 2. Dr Jha, a formal candidate of the democratic panel, defeated Dr Krishna Kumar Rai, who was a rebel candidate from the same faction. "Out of 1,340 votes, Dr Jha got 883," Dr Lochan Karki, of NMA said, adding," It was a clear majority."
Dr Karki has been elected joint-secretary of NMA, an umbrella organization of Nepali doctors. Dr Karki said that all elected members are from the democratic panel. The progressive panel refrains from contesting in elections. Dr Jha, a consultant at Bharatpur Cancer Hospital, said that his team will work for the doctors´ welfare.
