DPM Thapa asked to clarify over poll silence breach

KATHMANDU, Nov 24: The Election Commission (EC) has asked Deputy Prime Minister Kamal Thapa to furnish clarification within 24 hours for violating election silence.

KATHMANDU, Nov 24: The Election Commission (EC) has asked Deputy Prime Minister Kamal Thapa to furnish clarification within 24 hours for violating election silence. 


He has been accused of soliciting votes on twitter during the silence period. A meeting of the Election Code of Conduct Central Monitoring Committee asked Thapa to furnish clarification.

EC spokesperson Navaraj Dhakal informed that a letter has been sent to the Office of Prime Minister and Council of Ministers and Thapa's Rastriya Prajatantra Party directing him to furnish clarification in writing.


After the EC action, Deputy Prime Minister Thapa deleted his all related tweets. He then tweeted, "After the EC drew my attention, I have deleted all election-centric tweets. I am fully committed to respecting the election code of conduct."
