KATHMANDU, Jan 4: Deputy Prime Minister Bijaya Kumar Gachchhadar allegedly offered bribe to a member of Public Accounts Committee (PAC) to support Nepal Arilines’ bid to buy Airbus aircraft earlier this year, a cable sent by US Embassy in Kathmandu revealed.

“A close Embassy contact on the PAC recently alleged that Gachchhadar offered him a bribe to support the deal and even threatened the PM that he would pull his party out of government if the Airbus deal did not go through,” reads a confidential cable leaked by Wikileaks.[break]

The cable, dated February 24 and labeled confidential, deals with US Embassy’s charge d’ Affaires Donald A Camp’s meeting with finance secretary Rameshwor Khanal and outlines the process of NAC’s aircraft procurement process.
