Dozen NSU cadres injured in police action

KATHMANDU: At least a dozen students were injured as police baton charged students affiliated with Nepal Students´ Union (NSU) in front of Pashupati Multiple Campus at Chabahil on Sunday. They were staging protests against the release of a Maoist-affiliated All Nepal National Independent Students´ Union-Revolutionary (ANNISU-R) cadre, who was arrested on Friday for possessing illegal arms in the campus premises, without any action. The NSU General Secretary Gajendra Karki, Press Chief Ram Prasad Adhikari, Bimal Adhikari, Mahendra Bhattarai and Muna Chaulagain are among those injured in the police action. The injured are undergoing treatment at Om Medical College, and Medicare Hospital at Chabahil. NSU leader Manoj Mani Acharya alleged that Maoist-affiliated ANNISU-R and Young Communist League cadres also beat up NSU students with tacit support of deployed police personnel.



Meanwhile, NSU students have started protests in front of Tri-Chandra Campus, Ghantaghar. The agitating students have burnt down the banner carrying the picture of Maoist Chairman Prachanda at the campus.
