KATHMANDU, Dec 28: People from various walks of life ranging from politicians to civil society activists have taken to the streets to protest against the dissolution of the House of Representatives (HoR) by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.

The dramatic move by PM Oli has been objected even by the cadres of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP). Opposition parties including Nepali Congress and Janata Samajbadi Party have also been staging protests against the ‘unconstitutional’ move taken on December 20.

As the 12 writs filed at the Supreme Court demanding the restoration of the House are under consideration, people have also expressed their confidence that the apex court will give its verdict against PM Oli’s move.

Meanwhile, the students of the Kathmandu-based Balmiki Campus also staged a symbolic protest against House dissolution. The students affiliated to the student wing close to the Dahal-Nepal faction of the NCP, terming Oli’s move as undemocratic and regressive, carried out a ‘Swaha’ ceremony [a Veidic rite] in the capital on Monday. Blowing conch shells and ringing bells, they wished for the end of the ‘unconstitutional and undemocratic’ step taken by KP Oli.
