KATHMANDU, June 1: The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) has decided not to allow domestic flights to operate if the weather is not clear.

Issuing a statement on Tuesday, the CAAN stated that the airlines and airports have been banned from flying in the event of adverse weather conditions for a certain period of time. The decision was made keeping in view of complex geographical and weather conditions of Nepal.

The decision of CAAN comes in the wake of the Tara Air plane crash that took place on Sunday. The statement said that from now onward, the airlines concerned should collect weather information of the destination and route from the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology while submitting flight plans to the concerned units. Also, the air office service or the concerned unit should approve the air plan only if the weather conditions are favorable.

Similarly, it has been made mandatory for airlines concerned to collect a brief weather report to the licensed flight operator while operating any flight. In the case of a single-engine helicopter, the authority has made it mandatory for two pilots to fly, except as specified. For this, CAAN has formed a five-member team to prepare a proposal and submit it within seven days.
