Dolpa monastery collapses, property worth Rs 2.5 m destroyed

DOLPA, March 12: Property worth Rs 2.5 million was destroyed when the oldest monastery here collapsed today due to the snowfall and rain that has been pouring in since five days.

Situated at Tripurakot VDC-8 of the district, the Rasi Rumbe Tumbe Monastery, the main religious monument of the Buddhists in the district, caved in causing damages to the oldest idols of Buddha and the murals at the monastery.
According to Romharsha Silwal, the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) at the Police Office, Tripurakot, many of the idols and materials for religious offering have been covered by rubble as the monastery collapsed. RSS
