The government-approved School Fee Determination Committee of the office on April 12 had decided to allow private education institutions to hike fees by up to 25 percent. But the Central Fee Determination and Monitoring Committee at the DoE has directed the office to implement the latest agreement between the government, various student unions and guardians to rollback the fee-hike this year.
As per a 10-point agreement among the stakeholders, the schools are required to return the excess fees charged to the guardians within 15 days.
Suprabhat Bhandari, one of the committee members, said that a separate technical committee was also formed on the day to analyze the scientific aspect of increment so that such controversies are avoided in the future.
DoE Director Khagendra Nepal will be coordinator of the technical committee in which an educationist and representatives of student unions, guardians, PABSON and NPABSON would be present.
On Wednesday, the 12 students unions held a separate meeting on the issue and decided to act tough against the government and the private sector if the authorities fail to keep their promise.
"Let the government know that student unions will remain polite only if schools are monitored properly and strong actions are taken against those who violate rules," warned Ramesh Malla, coordinator of ANNISUR.
The unions have also announced to form their separate monitoring committee to keep a vigil over the activities of schools from the new session.
