Doctors to charge patient as much as Rs 825 as examination fee

KATHMANDU, Feb 17: The fee the medical doctors charge their patients for examining their health has increased starting Wednesday.  

According to a press statement jointly issued by Nepal Medical Association and Association of Private Health Institutions of Nepal, a decision to this effect was taken after a joint meeting held on Tuesday. 

The doctors holding MBBS and BDS degrees with five years of experience can charge Rs 370 and those with experience more than five years can charge Rs 450. Similarly, the doctors holding MBBS and BDS degree along with diploma training with less than five years of experience can charge Rs 515 and those with more than five years of experience can charge Rs 590 as per the decision taken by the joint meeting. 

Similarly, the doctors holding MD/MS/MDS with five years of experience can charge Rs 600 and those with more than five years can charge Rs 700. The doctors possessing DMA and MCH with five years of experience can charge Rs 770 and those with more than five years of experience Rs 825.

The meeting has also decided to allow doctors holding MD/MCH with five years of experience to charge Rs 825. The doctors holding MD/MSMDS degrees with the experience of 10 years are allowed to charge Rs 825.

Similarly, the joint meeting has also decided to increase the minimum salary of medical officers working with the private health institutions to Rs 42,000 per month. Both the organizations have urged all doctors, health institutions and hospitals to help implement the decisions.
