DoCR launches information system to systematize SSA scheme

KATHMANDU, April 17: The Department of Civil Registration (DoCR) has launched an information system to systematize the social security allowance (SSA) scheme. 


According to Department's social security department section's officer Sabitra Basnet, names of scheme beneficiaries have been entered into the system. The new practice is expected to help to address issues like a repeat of a beneficiary's name during the distribution of allowance, and other wrong details regarding it and avert chances of release of budget in the name of deceased.

Local-levels employee will enter names of people entitled for the scheme into a system operated by the Department and it will distribute the allowance on the same basis. The Department had received complaints that irregularities are taking place in the distribution of social security allowance. 


Presently, 1,458 wards in 137 municipalities and 285 rural municipalities are distributing the social security allowance through an e-system. 


All 753 local levels are to be connected to the new system in the coming fiscal year. The concept of SSA that was first brought in practice in Nepal in 2051 BS during the then Manmohan Adhikari-led government with Rs 100 monthly old-age allowance to people above 75. 


Now, single women(widows), people above 70, people of Karnali and from the Dalit community completing 60 years of age, children from the marginalized community and physically incapacitated receive a certain amount under the SSA scheme. RSS
