Gone are those days now. The women of Hatemalo Mothers´ Group have banned the sale of alcohol in the village. [break]
Now that the ban has been effectively implemented the adult males in the village no more kill away their time in local taverns. The women charge a fine of up to Rs 3,000 to tavern owners found selling alcohol during the daytime and Rs 2,000 to those found drinking.

According to Chansari Gaburja, chairman of the group, five people have already been penalized for breaching the rule.
The group has collected Rs 9, 000 in fines.
“There would be no drunkard in the village if the traders stop selling alcohol. So we charge a higher fine to traders,” said secretary of the group, Bomaya Gaburja. However, the group allows sale of liquor during festivities.
