SANUSIRUWARI, (Sindhupalchowk): Locals of Sanusirubari suffered a scarcity of drinking water for a long time in Chautara-Sangachowkgadhi Municipality-7.

Gurungdhara, a fountain, failed to meet the demand of growing population. The locals had to turn to Jugal-Thalkharka-Holche Drinking Water Project, which is 35 km away from the village, in a bid to resolve the shortage of drinking water in the village.

Crystal clear water could be seen flowing in a stream just one and a half km below the village, tantalizing the thirst of villagers further.

An idea came to their mind that if they pumped water from Majuwa stream below the village, the shortage of water could be resolved. But, the process would be costly and the locals did not have sufficient money to do so, either.

They knocked on the doors of various organizations including Alternative Energy Promotion Center.

In the course of collecting fund, locals happened to reach out to a non-government organization World Vision that provided Rs 13 million while Alternative Energy Promotion donated Rs 4 million.

Having named the drinking water project Majuwa Bagar Kotdanda Lifting Drinking Water Project, the locals geared up for building the project with the fund collected and partly with labor contribution worth around Rs 3.2 million.

As a result, they were able to lift the water from Majuwa River finally with the help of solar panel, said Ganesh Bahadur Shrestha, chairman of drinking water consumer committee. Now they feel that their hope of drinking water is getting realized. Their happiness knew no bounds.

Laying pipelines are underway.
