"The government hasn´t contacted us. We are completely unaware of any initiatives taken with regard to holding talks with our party," CPN-Maoist politburo member Kul Prasad KC told Republica.[break]
He said that they don´t want to negotiate with the present government as it wasn´t a legitimate government. CPN-Maoist had stood against the proposal to form an election government under the leadership of a sitting chief justice.
After the formation of the Khil Raj Regmi government, CPN-Maoist announced a boycott of any election to be held by the government of bureaucrats.
Chairman of Madhesi People´s Rights Forum, Upendra Yadav, has also refuted government claims to have offered an olive branch to his party. "We are yet to receive a formal invitation for talks from the government," said Yadav.
According to him, the government has not made even an informal approach to him in connection with talks, let alone engaging in any correspondence to that effect.
The Federal Socialist Party is another disgruntled party whose leaders have rebutted the government claims. "The government hasn´t approached our party for talks either formally or informally," said its vice-president, Gopal Thakur.
The government, in a statement issued Monday, claimed that a government team is holding talks with the dissident political parties. "The three-member committee formed under the leadership of the home minister to coordinate and consult with dissident political parties is doing its job of coordination and consultation for the talks," reads the statement.
