KATHMANDU, Jan 14: The National Sports Council (NSC)’s Member-secretary Keshav Kumar Bista on Saturday claimed that the continuous conflict between different associations in karate will soon be resolved.

Addressing a felicitation program organized by the Nepal Shito-Ryu-Karate-Do Association’s Budhanilkantha Branch, Bista said that the disputes will be resolved before the 13th South Asian Games (SAG) and Nepal will win more medals than the previous editions.

“There are few cases of conflicts in karate, but they will be resolved soon. NSC has already made plans to solve it,’’ Bista said. “The groups within the groups who rob in the name of Karate won’t be entertained. Karate sports will move forward in a unit by forming a new committee which will be acceptable by everyone.” He claimed that with the resolution of disputes Nepal will be able to win more medals in the upcoming SAG and the players should be prepared to do that.

Purendra Bikram Lakhe and Dawa Sherpa have been leading two different associations in Karate. Lakhe has been saying that his association has international recognition and Dawa has the national.

The North branch of Budhanilkantha felicitated Sushila Tamang and Abhinash Chaudhary who won silver medals, while Sunil Thing was felicitated for winning the bronze medal in the South Asian Karate Championship held in August. Likewise, Srijana Adhikari, Sesuka Rai, Heera Devi Rai and Sanu Babu Tamang who completed their Asian Karate Federation (AKF)’s referee course, including Prem Lal Bamjan and Buddha Bir Lama who got the AKF coaching license were also felicitated in the same ceremony.

CPN-UML General Secretary and the chief guest of the program Ishwar Pokharel said that the flaw of politics has vitiated the sports sector as well and that it should be stopped.

“Instability in politics impacts every areas of the society and sports has also been affected by it. The goal of the forming a stable government is to expedite development and prosperity. With this, sports will also progress,’’ said Pokharel.
