KATHMANDU, Sept 11: Differences have surfaced in the Nepali Congress liaison committee in the UK as the committee president and vice president sent two separate lists of members for representation in the party"s upcoming 12th general convention.

Committee"s Senior Vice President Bhim Rai has sent a list of convention representatives and said the list earlier sent by committee president Lok Gurung is not valid as Gurung has shed Nepali citizenship. Nepali Congress statute stipulates that party"s active member must be a Nepali citizen. [break]

Binod Raj Moktan, former president of Nepali Liaison Committee, UK, said they have asked the NC"s Election Committee to declare Gurung"s list as invalid.

Earlier, the Election Committee had decided not to accept any general convention representatives recommended by the party"s liaison committees in Japan and the US following disputes in those committees. Election Committee chief Radheshyam Adhikari said they have no information about the dispute in the UK liaison committee.

The Election Committee"s provision says a liaison committee abroad with at least 500 active members can send a total seven representatives for the general convention. Liaison committees having less than 500 active members can send only observers.

The party"s liaison committee has already sent 14 representatives for the general convention while committees in Malaysia, Qatar, South Korea and Belgium have sent seven representatives.
