Dixit, the executive director of National Society for Earthquake Technology –Nepal (NSET), has been selected for the award in view of his outstanding contributions for education, training and awareness for earthquake risk mitigation in South Asian Region.
Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh conferred the award to Dixit amidst a ceremony during the inaugural session of the Second India Disaster Management Congress in New Delhi.
Dr AS, Professor Emeritus, IIT Roorkee and Prof Muhammad Yunus, the Bangladeshi Noble Laureate, had received the award in the past, according to NSET.
Dixit has been actively engaged in natural hazards and Disaster Risk Reduction since 1978. He is the founding General Secretary of NSET in 1993. Dixit has led projects on earthquake mitigation, preparedness, response and reconstruction in Pakistan, India, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Philippines, Indonesia, Tajikistan, Iran and Japan.
