KATHMANDU, June 26: The Mohan Baidya faction of the Unified Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) has initiated internal discussion over the need of a coalition government that includes patriotic and leftist forces. [break]

This comes in the wake of the Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal highlighting the need of a national unity government in his political report presented in the ongoing politburo meeting of the party to bail the country out of the current political uncertainty and take the peace process to a logical end.

There have been differences within the party on what should be the ultimate point of the ongoing movement for civil supremacy.

The Baidya faction initiated discussion on coalition government, concluding that there was no alternative to it to safeguard national independence and ensure civilian supremacy. “We should move ahead by including leaders like Jhala Nath Khanal and Bam Dev Gautam of the UML,” said a politburo member of the Baidya faction.

The Baidya faction has concluded that there was a conductive environment for their proposal as the party Chairman Dahal´s proposal for national government was heavily criticized during the ongoing politburo meeting.
