Dharan pros shares lead

DHARAN, Dec 26: Local professional golfers Mani Rai and Suman Rai shared the lead in the Surya Nepal Eastern Open golf tournament after the second round on Wednesday at the par-70 Nirvana Country Club Golf and Health Resort here in Dharan.



Mani played one-under 69 on Wednesday while Suman carded three-under 67 for a total of one-under 139.[break]



They are one stroke ahead of Royal Nepal Golf Club (RNGC) pro Rabi Khadka. Khadka played a round of two-under 68 for a total of even-par 140.



Mani played even-par 35 on the front nine that included a birdie on the third hole and a bogey on the fourth hole. He started the back nine with a bogey but carded birdies on the 11th and 13th holes to finish the last nine holes at one-under 34.



Likewise, Suman carded five birdies on his way to three-under 67. He took the turn at one-under 34 and added two-under 33 on the back nine. He shot birdies on the fifth, eighth, 12th, 13th and 16th holes against bogeys on the first and 17th holes.



Dhana Thapa is fourth at four-over 144 after a second round score of one-over 71, while Ram Thapa, Sanjay Lama and Surya Prasad Sharma share the fifth position at five-over 145. Likewise, overnight joint leader Deoraj Pakhrin and defending champion Shiva Ram Shrestha are tied for the eighth position with a score of seven-over 147.



Umesh Nagarkoti (77), Deepak Neupane (72) and Sabin Sapkota (76) share the 10th position at eight-over 148. Yelamber Singh Adhikari (75) is 13th at 149, while Deepak Thapa Magar (75), Deepak Acharya (73) and Purna Sharma (79) are tied for the 14th position with a score of 10-over 150.



The cut was applied at 15-over 155 with 29 players -- 21 pros and eight amateurs -- surviving for the final two rounds.



In the amateur section, Nepal No 1 Bikash Bogati extended his lead with a total score of two-over 142. Bikash carded even-par 70 in the second round. He is overall fourth in the leader-board. Dinesh Prajapati is second at 147, while Bishnu Sharma is third at 150.



The winning pro will receive Rs 55,000 and trophy in the seventh event under the Surya Nepal Golf Tour 2012-13.
