A cabinet meeting held Thursday decided to appoint Dhakal as the chief of the government utility to supply drinking water in Kathmandu Valley for the next four years. The decision was made as per the recommendation made by the Public Corporations Directive Board.[break]
According to Minister for Information and Communications Madhav Poudel, who is also government spokesperson, the cabinet meeting also decided to allow Salt Trading Corporation to import 30,000 metric tons of sugar at 1 percent customs rate in view of the Dashain and Tihar festivals that fall in October-November . The import, which will be made through a global tender, is expected to ease the supply of sugar during the two greatest festivals of Hindus.
Minister Poudel said the meeting also decided to file candidacy of Dr Bhogendra Sharma for a vacant position in the United Nations Committee against Torture on behalf of Nepal. The meeting has directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to mobilize all diplomatic missions abroad to lobby for Sharma´s candidacy.
Likewise, the meeting has appointed senior scientist officer with the National Forensic Laboratory Jeevan Prasad Rijal to the body´s executive director.
