Devotees throng Risheshwor Temple since early morning

KATHMANDU, Sept 10: A large number of Hindu women have thronged the Risheshwor Mahadev Temple at Teku in the capital on the occasion of Rishipanchami festival since early morning Tuesday.



The festival is celebrated on the day of Bhadra Shuklapanchami or the fifth day of the waxing moon in the Nepali month Bhadau as per the lunar calendar. [break]



Women bathe in holy ponds and rivers and wear sacred clothes and worship the Saptarishis (the legendary seven sages) Kashyap, Atri, Bharadwaj, Bishwamitra, Jamadagni, Gautam and Bashishtha wishing for good health and prosperity, said Dr. Bishnu Dahal, culture expert.



Hundreds of devotees have so far offered prayers in the temple, it is learnt



Volunteers from the Nepal Scouts, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force and Nepal Army and other religious associations have been mobilized to provide security and services to devotees.



The devotees are celebrating the festival by worshiping the Saptarishis and dancing and singing in the temple premises.
