KATHMANDU, Sept 4: Over 550,000 devotees had offered teej prayers to Lord Shiva at the Pashupatinath Temple by 6 pm on Sunday evening.

Member Secretary of the Pashupati Area Development Trust (PADT) Govinda Tandon, informed that devotees were allowed to enter into the temple since 3:30 am Sunday.

“The number of the devotees seemed more than last year,” Tandon told Republica over phone. “So far over 550,000 devotees have been able to offer prayers, and we expect the numbers to reach around 900,000 by 9 pm, when the temple closes.”

“Devotee's queues were managed in a more efficient manner this time and that might be the reason for not receiving complains from devotees,” he said. “Along with the volunteers, over 3,000 security personal have been mobilized for the event.”

President Bidhya Devi Bhandari and Chief Justice Sushila Karki also offered puja at the temple.
