Sources close to Deuba said over three dozen district presidents are invited to a meeting being held to discuss the party´s internal politics and the overall politics of the country. The district presidents invited for the meeting include those deemed close to the party´s establishment faction.[break]
Deuba has also called a meeting of the party´s incumbent and former Central Working Committee members and lawmakers close to his faction for Saturday afternoon. It is learnt that the meeting, organized to pressure the party president to ensure proportionate representation of the Deuba faction in all nominations to be made in the party, will discuss their strategy if President Koirala takes any unilateral decision on nominations.
During the CWC meeting last Sunday, Koirala had proposed the nomination of Ram Chandra Paudel as vice president of the party and Krishna Prasad Sitaula as general-secretary. The proposal has miffed not only CWC members close to Deuba but also those close to Koirala, including Sujata Koirala, Arjun Narsingh KC and KB Gurung.
The CWC meeting was put off indefinitely on Friday following five days of deliberations on the proposal, as the CWC members were sharply divided.
NC President Koirala has lately expedited consultations with leaders close to Deuba, apparently to win their backing to get his nomination proposal endorsed. The Deuba faction has demanded proportionate representation in the party´s parliamentary board and in the nominations for chiefs of various departments within the party, the work performance committee and 20 CWC members to be nominated by the party president.
