Deuba rules out declaring successor

During a visit to Biratnagar on Friday, journalists asked Deuba if Gagan Thapa was his successor at the helm of the party. In response, Deuba said, “How can I declare a successor? Everything will proceed according to the procedures.”

KATHMANDU, Dec 6: Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that he will not declare a successor, emphasizing adherence to party rules and procedures.

During a visit to Biratnagar on Friday, journalists asked Deuba if Gagan Thapa was his successor at the helm of the party. In response, Deuba said, “How can I declare a successor? Everything will proceed according to the procedures.”


He also commented on the constitutional role of the Vice President, suggesting that the Vice President could assume the role of Speaker of the National Assembly through a constitutional amendment. "The Vice President currently has no significant role but can be assigned responsibilities through an amendment," Deuba said.
