Deuba panel sweeps parliamentary party also

KATHMANDU, April 8: The faction led by Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba has won the party's parliamentary party (PP) panel election securing more than two-thirds majority.

In the election to pick 22 PP executive committee members of the party on Friday, 18 candidates from Deuba panel got elected. Only four candidates close to Ram Chandra Paudel won the election. Earlier this week, Deuba won the post of parliamentary party leader defeating Paudel by wide margin.Ram Chandra Pokharel, Dipak Khadka, Bharat Bahadur Khadka and Rajendra Kumar KC were the only leaders to be elected from Paudel panel. The winners from Paudel panel represented province one, four, seven and the seat reserved for Khas Arya community.

Altogether 42 lawmakers had contested for the 22 PP committee posts.

Among them, Rajib Bikram Shah, who is loyal to Deuba, got elected to the executive committee unopposed.

The 37-member PP committee will get full shape after party leadership nominates other nine members to the committee.

The committee will be led by the party's parliamentary party leader and will have a deputy parliamentary party leader, a chief whip, a whip and office bearers of the party as its ex-officio members.

Province-3: Dhyan Govinda Ranjit-117, Rameshwar Prasad Dhungel-86

Province-4 Kamal Pangeni-94, Ramchandra Pokharel-109

Province-5: Bikram Khanal-111, Sanjaya Yadav-93

Province-6: Tapta Bahadur Bista-103, Rita Shahi-73

Province-7: Dirgha Bhat-93, Bharat Bahadur Khadka-110
