Deuba doubts statute on time

TANAHUN, Feb 25: Nepali Congress leader Sher Bahadur Deuba on Friday said chances of promulgating the constitution by May 28, 2011 were slim due to leaders of major political parties fighting for chair.



Speaking at the inaugural function of Khairenitar Expo here, Deuba said the country will become rich and prosperous only after the establishment of lasting peace and promulgation of a democratic constitution.[break]



“Constitution writing has been in a limbo due to the wrangling among leaders of political parties for ministerial posts,” he said.



Deuba further said lasting peace cannot be established in the country as long as the army integration task is not completed. He also said the future of Maoist combatants remains uncertain although they have been brought under the Special Committee.
