SAPTARI, Feb 11: A detainee, who is under investigation on rape charge, has been found dead inside the Rajbiraj prison.
The deceased has been identified as Devendra Mandal, 19, of Hanuman Nagar Kankalini Municipality-6, Saptari district. Officiating administrator of the prison Sadananda Das said Mandal was found dead, hanging inside the prison toilet this morning.
Around one million looted in Rajbiraj
Mandal was sent to detention at the Rajbiraj prison for further investigation on the charge of abducting and raping a 15-year-old girl on the night of July 29, 2023. He was in detention since August 28.
He was arrested on August 2 after the victim's parents filed an FIR at the district Police Office, Saptari.
The prison administration has informed Mandal's family about the incident, said Das.
