In Terhathum, the incident of a 6-year-old girl's rape came to fore even as locals tried to hush the issue under the influence of money, according to Jivan Bogati, sub inspector at Area Police Office of Chhatedhunga.
The incident had taken place on March 1, when the victim had gone to the home of the alleged rapist, Prem Kumar Shrestha, 18, for charging a mobile phone.
The victim, who sustained grave injuries, was admitted to a local health center for treatment.
"The rape victim is said to be in critical condition," Sub Inspector Bogati said. "After doctors failed to treat her at the local health center, she was referred to district hospital," he said.
Soon after the incident, the accused Prem Kumar Shrestha fled the village. However, police was able to arrest him from Tamorghat on Friday.
Likewise, Ram Prasad Neupane, 48, of Subarnapur VDC allegedly raped a 30-year-old woman in Parsa district last Wednesday, according to the District Police Office (DPO).
The accused Neupane raped the woman when she was alone in a field to collect fodder, DSP Bir Bahadur Oli said.
Break taboos to reinstate rape victims
The accused was arrested on the same day. The rape victim was taken to Narayani Sub-Regional Hospital based in Birgunj for treatment, according to the DPO.
"The rape will be confirmed only after we get the report," said DSP Oli.
Meanwhile, District Court of Parsa has given a week's time to the police for investigation into the incident.
Similarly, three rape incidents of women, including two girls, were reported from Sarlahi district in the last nine days alone, as per Republica correspondent based in Sarlahi.
