KATHMANDU, Aug 7: The Department of Passports under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has started printing around 2,000 passports daily amid growing demand for passport services.
Speaking at a press conference held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday, ministry spokesperson Lok Bahadur Paudel Chhetri said the department has opened application slots for up to 2,000 applicants a day and is printing and distributing passports at a similar rate.
He said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Department of Passports are committed to ensuring smooth and accessible passport services.

“Applicants who are unable to secure a slot but face a genuine emergency can directly contact the department. Based on the circumstances, arrangements have been made to provide the passport on the same day,” Chhetri said.
He said the department has also been operating services in two shifts to make service delivery more organised and citizen-friendly. The department also continued providing services last Saturday and Sunday despite the weekend holidays, he said.
“Passport application services are currently available from the Department of Passports, all 77 districts, 13 Area Administration Offices and 33 Nepali diplomatic missions abroad. Preparations are also underway to allow application at any time through six additional missions,” Chhetri said.
He added that more than 25,000 passports have already been printed under the new system.
