Democracy fighter Sardar no more

MAHOTTARI, Feb 22: Sitaram Sardar, a person who played a significant role in the leftist movement in the country, passed away at his residence in Bhangaha Municipality-7 on Monday morning.

MAHOTTARI, Feb 22: Sitaram Sardar, a person who played a significant role in the leftist movement in the country, passed away at his residence in Bhangaha Municipality-7 on Monday morning.


Sardar was 80-year-old and had been suffering from multiple health problems including diabetes and paralysis. Sardar who was from the Bantar ethnic community had been in politics since 2036 BS. He had played a leading role in the fronts of struggle for the restoration of democracy. The front was led by the Nepal Communist Party under the leadership of Bishnu Bahadur Manandhar in 2038 BS. Later in 2049, Sardar joined the CPN UML.

He also waged a struggle against ethnic discrimination and oppression. He was one among a few people reaching leadership in the district from the Bantar community, according to UML politburo member and Mahottari district in-charge Ram Dayal Mandal. 


Similarly, the district chairperson of UML, Tek Bahadur Balampaki remembered Sardar as a man of integrity.


Sardar's final rites were performed on the bank of the Ratu River on Monday itself. He is survived by his wife and six children.
