Das had led the labour movement waged at the initiation of the Nepali Congress at Birgunj Sugar Factory in 1967. He had been associated with the country's democracy movement ever since. He was incarcerated for three years for his political association by the then regime. He spent seven years in political exile in India.

Das was elected the central secretary of Nepal Trade Union Congress after the restoration of democracy in 1990. He is the senior vice-president of the B.P. Thought Academy and the member of the Nepali Congress Bara constituency-2 committee.

He is in critical health and laments that the Nepali Congress party, for which he had dedicated his whole life, has not shown any interest in his treatment.

"I spent most of my life for the party's cause, but I have not got any support from the party. It hurts when none of the party leaders show concern regarding my health condition and treatment," the ailing Das said, with eyes filled with tears. RSS
