DANG, Aug 3: A dozen villages in Deukhuri, Dang have been inundated because of the flood in the Rapti River following persistent rains. Hundreds of families in Sishaniya, Lalmtiyatatha, Paharwa, Bhagwanpur, among other villages, have been displaced by the flooding, police said.

“We cannot say exactly how many households have been displaced yet, but there has been massive destruction,” said police inspector Ishwor DC. [break]

A team of 70 security personnel led by DC has been carrying out rescue operation in the affected areas. According to the locals, the flood in the river is the biggest they have ever seen. Several villages in Deukhuri had been hit by a flood just two weeks ago, affecting more than 3000 houses.

Meanwhile, rising water levels in several other rivers in the area has obstructed transportation along the Lamahi-Tulsipur section. Around a dozen rivers that fall along the section have no bridges, bringing transportation to a halt during rainy season.
