The trio from Basdilwa-4, lured with the promise of viewing Bollywood blockbuster ´Ghazini´ by one Jayaprakash Kurmi Saturday, escaped after the storm blew away the roof of the home they were detained at. [break]
“They had planned to take us across the border early in the morning, but we managed to escape after the violent storm,” 14-year-old Sanjay Raut, one of the victims, said.
Kurmi, who was staying in Basdilwa for the last two months, had also kidnapped Sunil Mahato, 12, and Umesh Mahato, 13. The kids, already familiar with the popular numbers of Ghazini through radio stations, gave into temptation. But they were taken to Parwanipur, Bara and were drugged with sweets.

They were then held at knife point and taken to Matiharwa Basantapur of Bara near the Indo-Nepal border where they were hidden in the house. The boys managed to escape during the storm and luckily happened across Sunil´s paternal aunt residing in the village.
The locals nabbed the culprits, Jayaprakash and his accomplice Mahesh Kurmi, and handed them to police, turning the children over to their guardians.
The kidnappers confessed to have taken the kids to sell them in India at IRs 10,000 each. “An Indian citizen had asked me to supply children,” Jayaprakash admitted.
Kidnapping has been on the rise in the Tarai, with richer children targeted for ransom and the poor for organ trafficking. The parents of the kidnapped trio are beaming after the divine intervention saved their children and are basking in the glory of nature.
