Deadline for signing new constitution extended till tomorrow

KATHMANDU, Sept 19: Constituent Assembly (CA) Chairman Subas Nembang has informed that lawmakers, who didn’t sign the copies of the new constitution on Friday, can approve the statute till tomorrow.

Speaking with journalists on Saturday, Nembang said that there was representation of all in the constitution writing process, adding that the time for signing the copies of the constitution has been extended till 4 pm on Sunday.


“This constitution is a common constitution of all,” Nembang said, “There is representation from Tarai, Hill and Mountain.”

The time was extended using special rights inherent with CA Chairman as some lawmakers are yet to sign the constitution.  

Nembang certified the new constitution after 537 lawmakers signed on five copies of the new constitution amidst a function at the CA building on Friday.

President Ram Baran Yadav is scheduled to announce promulgation of the new constitution amidst a special ceremony at CA at 5 pm tomorrow.
