KATHMANDU, June 3: The Department of Transport Management (DoTM) has initiated process to ban heavy-duty cargo trucks in certain sections of the capital during daytime starting June 17.
According to the officials from the Metropolitan Traffic Police Division (MTPD), Baggikhana, they have received a directive from the department to implement a partial ban on heavy cargo trucks from June 17. As per the plan, heavy-duty cargo trucks could be banned from several road sections in the capital from 8 am to 7 pm.
As per the plan, heavy cargo trucks will be banned on the Ring Road, inner city area in Bhaktapur, the Chabahil-Jorpati section, the Gopi Krishna-Kapan section, the Narayan Gopal Chowk-Budhanilkantha section, Basundhara area, the Samakhusi-Grande Hospital section, the Balaju Bypass-Goldhunga section, the Kalanki-Thankot section, the Bagdole-Nakkhu section, the Satdobato-Harisiddhi section and the Gwarko-Sanagaun section from 8 am to 7 pm daily starting June 17.
MTPD officials said the ban is being imposed to reduce traffic congestion and dust pollution in the capital.
Chief of the MTPD, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Basanta Panta, however said although they have already received the directive from the department, the authorities are still discussing the ban and are scheduled to hold one final meeting on Monday.
