KATHMANDU, Sept 23: The courtyard of Nepal Tourism Board, Exhibition Road has been decorated with enchanting photographs of the Gokyo region. The photo exhibition that kicked off on Friday is titled 'Gokyo-Ri 'and features photographs by mountaineer turned photographer Dawa Lama Tamang.
The exhibition features a total of 32 photographs in different sizes captured in 2014, 2015 and 2016. The photos were selected out of Tamang’s collection of 37, 000 photographs.
He said, “I have been climbing mountains since 1998. And I began to take photographs of the mountainous regions since 2003. Taking photographs has helped me retain my memories of the mountain climbing experience. I like to recall those exciting and adventurous moments and that' s how I got the passion for photography."

He added that photography made him happy. Talking about the reason behind the exhibition he shared, "It has been my dream to get featured in an exhibition. I was in Gokyo during the 2015 Gorkha Earthquake and I was among the survivors. I felt the need to exhibit what I had recorded after I realized the quake’s impact and the magnificent beauty of Gokyo region. My dream has come true today."
He has captured beautiful landscapes, water sources, birds and trekkers at the Gokyo Lake. Gokyo Lake is situated in Sagamatha National Park with other five lakes at the height of 5,363 meters.
Colored photographs at the exhibit give the spectators a sense of being in the very place that has been captured. In one of the photographs, Tamang has captured sunset over the Renjo La Pass (5,360 meters) taken from Gokyo Resort in Gokyo village in April 18, 2014.
In another photograph, two brown colored mountain shel ducks can be seen swimming in the Gokyo Lake. The water is dark blue color and the land is covered in white snow, while you can also see patches of brown rocky surface.
The photo exhibition is organized as the part of #photoNepal and an initiative of Nepal Tourism Board as well as School of Creative Communication (SCC) to showcase the scenic beauty of Nepal and promote the talented photographer along with tourism.
The exhibition will continue till September 29.
