Dauphins lift Duhabhi Gold Cup

ITAHARI, April 7: Cameroon’s Dauphins Football Club has lifted the third Manmohan Duhabi Gold Cup football tournament with 8-7 sudden-death win over the departmental team Tribhuvan Army Club in Itahari on Saturday.

ITAHARI, April 7: Cameroon’s Dauphins Football Club has lifted the third Manmohan Duhabi Gold Cup football tournament with 8-7 sudden-death win over the departmental team Tribhuvan Army Club in Itahari on Saturday. 


At the Duhabi Stadium, both the teams failed to score a goal in the regulation time and the extra time. The game was held in a 4-4 draw at the end of the tie-breaker, and as the game could not provide a clear winner, it was pushed to sudden-death.


Both the teams tried to score a goal despite opting for defensive football, but could not score. They started attacking in the game in the latter stages.

In the tie-breaker, Army’s Nawayug Shrestha, Tek Bahadur Budathoki, Santosh Tamang and Bibek Basnet scored, while skipper Bharat Khawas’ shot was stopped by the Dauphins goalkeeper. In the sudden-death, Suman Aryal, Deepak Gurung and Sesihang Aangdembe scored, but Bikash Khawas’ shot hit the bar.  


In the tie-breaker, Anjula, Penga, Liyang, Biek scored for the team, while Onguin JR’s shot went wide. In the sudden death, Priso, Nee, Kono and Oke Boto scored and won the title for the Cameroonian team. 


With the title win, Dauphins took home a cash prize of Rs 600,000, while the runner-up Army was rewarded with Rs 300,000. 


Man of the match Aryal of Army bagged a purse of Rs 10,000. 


Bikash Khawas was named the best defender, Dauphins’ Junior the best midfielder, Bharat Khawas the best forward and Budathoki the highest goal-scorer. They all got Rs 15,000 each. Similarly, Santosh Tamang, adjudged the best player, got Rs 25,000 and a 32-inch LED TV.
