JHAPA, Feb 17: A tragic incident unfolded in Jhapa district on Friday night, resulting in the death of a daughter and critical injuries to her mother during a self-immolation attempt.
According to Dundi Raj Giri, Police Inspector at the District Police Office, Jhapa, 28-year-old Maya Ramtel from Gopaldandi of Buddha Shanti rural municipality-2 attempted to set herself and her daughter on fire using petrol.
Mother, daughter critically injured in vehicle collision
During the attempt, she tied her daughter to her body with a shawl. Both sustained critical injuries and were promptly taken to B and C Hospital. Sadly, the daughter succumbed to her injuries this morning, while the mother remains in critical condition with severe burns on most parts of her body, as reported by Inspector Giri.
It was revealed that a suicide note was discovered near the incident site, where Maya explained her desperate act, citing her husband's extramarital affair as the reason. In connection to the case, the police have arrested Maya's husband, Rajan BK, and initiated an investigation.
