Darchula avalanche: Three bodies, including two of women, found

KATHMANDU, May 3: The bodies of two women and one man among the five people who were missing in an avalanche today in Byas Rural Municipality-1 of Darchula have been found.

KATHMANDU, May 3: The bodies of two women and one man among the five people who were missing in an avalanche today in Byas Rural Municipality-1 of Darchula have been found. A unit of the Armed Police Force (APF) rescued seven of the Yarsa collectors who were out of contact after the avalanche since Tuesday, while five were still out of contact.


Commander of the APF Company No 50 in Darchula's Chhangru, Deputy Superintendent of Police Ishwaridatta Bhatt said that three dead bodies were found outside the snow about one and a half kilometers below the place where they had disappeared. "After the bodies were located, locals, Nepal Police and our team reached the spot.” He said, “Although the bodies have been found, they are yet to be identified.”

Although the armed forces were engaged in search and rescue operations from Tuesday afternoon, it was difficult due to the continuous snow and rain. “Yesterday also, we were searching till 9.30PM.” He said, “Even today, the team has been deployed since morning.” According to him, Yarsa collectors were living under tarpaulin sheets in that area.
