KATHMANDU, Nov 3: Circus Kathmandu (CK), Nepal’s first and only contemporary circus company announces the premiere performance of Dakini, a dynamic and captivating fusion of circus, acrobatics, break dance, martial arts, puppetry and theatre.

Circus Kathmandu are ambassadors against human trafficking: most of the company have been in bonded labor as performers within Indian circuses. They are now powerfully reclaiming their histories as performers on their own terms and transforming their futures. They are pioneers, contributing a new and exciting element to the developing performing arts industry in Nepal.[break]

Floorless Co-Director, Robyn Simpson, who was also the Aerial Captain and lead performer in the Olympic Opening Ceremony 2012, and rigger Reuben Mosely worked on the London Olympic and Paralympic Ceremonies before joining Sky Neal, Co-Director of Floorless and other volunteers to work with the talented members of Circus Kathmandu to create a new show.

“With Circus Kathmandu, we have two weeks to put together a world class show. With The Games, we had months to rehearse. The short production time is part of the excitement and challenge of working collaboratively with this group. They are developing their technical and performing skills so rapidly it really keeps us on our toes,” said Simpson.

The new show, Dakini brings to life traditional Nepali storytelling. The story of Dakini is a journey of lost love: tumble into a crazy world where light and dark forces clash, magnificent water serpents spin their magic, spirits collude to create chaos, and demons battle in dark underworlds. Can lost love really be retrieved amidst such mythological mayhem?

To find out, be at the Dakini premieres at Bulls Club, Nakkhu on November 10 at 6pm and November 11 at 3pm and 6pm.

Tickets will be sold in advance at The Summit Hotel (Kupondole), Moksh (Jhamsikhel), Café Soma (Jhamsikhel) and Electric Pagoda (Thamel) or at the event on a first come, first served basis.
