BHARATPUR (Chitwan), Jan 11: Dairy farmers have demanded timely payment of milk from the relevant agencies.

Organizing a press conference in Bharatpur on Wednesday, the dairy farmers warned that they would have to leave the dairy business if they did not get their due payment on time. They have also put five different demands before the relevant agencies.

Among other things, the demands include providing them concessional loans, addressing the problem of insurance and facilitating the milk production-based subsidies given by the Bagmati provincial government.

President of Chitwan District Milk Producers' Cooperative Association, Kishore Bagaa, lamented that concerned agencies remain apathetic towards solving the problems faced by dairy farmers in Chitwan. He also cited problems in the marketing of milk and dairy products.

The problem is getting more complicated due to delay in payment of dairy farmers, who are facing problems in marketing their products, according to the dairy farmers.

The dairy sector was moving towards self-sufficiency but the state policy has not been encouraging to the dairy farmers, said the Association Secretary, Kalyan Adhikari.
