KATHMANDU, April 27: The transaction amount at the Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) stood at a meager Rs 1.08 billion on Wednesday amid the ongoing bearish trend at the share market.
Due to the falling confidence of the investors with the deepening economic problem that the country is facing at present, the transaction volume has been declining by a whopping amount in recent days. According to Nepse, the transaction amount has fallen to around Rs 1 billion daily from more than Rs 20 billion in just less than a year’s time.
Single-day turnover in Nepse at record high of Rs 2.78 billion
Despite the low transaction volume, the Nepse index on Wednesday increased by a marginal 5.17 points to close at 2,376.17 points. The market that opened at 2,370.99 points went to as low as 2,348.76 points and went through a series of fluctuations in the intraday trading.
Four out of 13 trading groups posted losses in their average shares prices. Arun Valley Hydropower Company had the largest turnover of its shares worth Rs 52.11 million. Jalpa Samudayik Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha posted the largest percent gain in its share price while Sanima Equity Fund was the top loser.
