With Dhakal, district police chief DSP Sharada Prasad Chaudhary and police inspectors Indra Prasad Chaudhary and Kiran Neupane have also been transferred in connection with Wednesday´s unrest. A senior police officer in Dailekh said police inspector Binod Sharma, who is also the chief investigation officer in the journalist Dekendra Thapa murder case, is set to receive his transfer order within a few days. "Citing lapses in security arrangement, the home ministry has recalled me," CDO Dakal said. "I might leave for the capital tomorrow (Friday)" he added. Dailekh police chief Chaudhary, however, described their transfers as a ploy to disrupt the investigation process of Thapa´s murder back in 2004. "We have been charged that we could not provide security to the prime minister´s team on Wednesday, but our transfers are actually meant to let free the killers of the journalist," DSP Chaudhary said.
A police source in Dailekh revealed the transfer orders were finalized Wednesday evening itself. "Senior Maoist leaders including Prime Minister Baburam Bhatarai got stuck in their program venue for over half an hour due to possible attacks by cadres of opposition parties," the source said, adding, "The prime minister´s team finally managed to get inside the army barrack, cutting the barbed wire fences."
The source further said, "The prime minister immediately called the CDO, police chief and other heads of government offices in the district for a meeting inside the barrack and finalized their transfer orders then and there." The source also said the PM threatened that Wednesday´s incident would cost all government employees in the district their jobs.
Meanwhile, the opposition parties, including Nepali Congress and CPN-UML, are holding protest mass meet here in the district headquarters. They have announced massive demonstrations for Friday in protest of Wednesday’s thrashing of their cadres.
Before this, they rallied on the street and chanted slogans. They warned of sterner steps, objecting to ´the government´s intent of more severe police crackdown’ on opposition activists by giving the charge of Dailekh police chief to SP Mohan Raj Joshi, who they said was the person who had a major role in suppressing their protest, a day earlier.
