KATHMANDU, Oct 22: Chairman of the UCPN (Maoist) Pushpa Kamal Dahal has said that the promotion of private sector for Public Private Partnership and investment-friendly environment is pivotal for the economic development of the country.

Speaking at a session ´economic agenda for prosperous Nepal´ with political leaders at a global conference of the Non-Resident Nepalis on Tuesday, Dahal said, “The revolutionary issues are no more relevant without economic development. However, it is important to note that economic development does not speed up without political stability.” [break]

“Economic activities are carried out in a political setting and several political settings of the unstable nature in past have badly affected the economic development of the country. Therefore a stable government is a prerequisite for the smooth economic development,” Dahal said.

Dahal hoped that the fresh Constituent Assembly election will ensure political stability in the country.

As the Non-Resident Nepali Association also has become mature enough it is high time to sit down to discuss what the country should do for the NRNs and how the NRNs can contribute to the country. The party has accorded top priority to economic agenda since its Hetauda plenum, Dahal said.

Moderator of the session, Kul Chandra Gautam, complained that the parties could not make commitments to make foreign employment safer, to send only skilled manpower and to double remittance, among others.

“It is wise to manage foreign employment rather than trying to stop the people from going aboard at the current situation,” added Gautam, who is also former assistant Secretary General of the United Nations.
