KATHMANDU, Jan 31: Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Madhav Kumar Nepal, the chairmen duo of the Dahal-Nepal faction of the ruling Nepal Communist party (NCP) are scheduled to participate in a sit-in protest at Maitighar today.
The party has been demanding restoration of the dissolved parliament staging a series of gatherings, protests and demonstrations across the country following the dissolution of the lower house of parliament on Dec 20, 2020.
A group close to the Dahal-Nepal faction has been staging a sit-in at Maitighar in the capital for the last few days following the announcement of the third phase of agitation against the dissolution of parliament by the party on Jan 25.
The party on Saturday organized a mass gathering in Dhangadi while the rival faction led by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli organized a similar gathering in Chitwan on the same day.
The two rival factions within the ruling NCP are apparently seen focused on displaying strength against each other.
The government has already announced midterm elections on April 30 and May 10. The case of dissolution of parliament is still sub judice at the Supreme Court.
