KATHMANDU, Aug. 9: The Nepal Cycle Society organized a cycle rally to promote social harmony, tolerance, national unity and brotherhood amid concerns over inter-community tensions in the Terai.
The rally also commemorated the lives of mountaineers Nirmal Purja Magar, Gyalu Sherpa, Nawang Thindu Sherpa, Pur Bahadur Gurung, Kili Pemba Sherpa, Nima Sherpa, Pakistani mountaineer Sohail Shakhi and other climbers who lost their lives in an avalanche while attempting to climb Broad Peak in Pakistan. Cyclists participating in the rally paid tribute to the deceased by lighting candles and observing a minute of silence.

The cyclists also paid tribute to those who lost their lives in the recent community conflicts.
Around 400 cyclists participated in the rally. They started from Swayambhu Bhagwan Pau, circled the Ring Road as part of the Kora cycling route and returned to Swayambhu Bhagwan Pau.
The Nepal Cycle Society expressed gratitude to all the cyclists for their participation in the event.
