KATHMANDU, Sept 3: Local administration has decided to clamp down curfew in Lalitpur beginning 4 am Friday after a violent clash between locals and police personnel earlier on Thursday afternoon.

A meeting of the Chief District Officer (CDO), police and local representatives of political parties held on Thursday evening decided to enforce the curfew from 4 am to 10 pm Friday within the Ring Road areas in Lalitpur district.

Lalitpur CDO Narayan Prasad Bhatta said the curfew order was issued to restore normalcy in the district. The meeting has also decided to pull the chariot 700 meter away from Pulchowk area and take it to Bungmati on September 11.

Pulchowk area wore a tense look after youths attacked police personnel on duty with bricks and stones as police stopped them organizing the chariot-pulling procession of Rato Machhindranath. Police cited a prohibitive order issued by the local administration to contain possible spread of the COVID-19.

Situation in Lalitpur is tense after police arrested at least nine persons involved in brutally attacking police personnel on duty. The agitating youths had also vandalized the police vehicle in the ensuing clashes.
