Curfew clamped in Banke after COVID-19 cases seen at community level

NEPALGUNJ, Aug 3: Local administration in Banke has enforced curfew in the district on Sunday after cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) were found spread at community level.

According to Chief District Officer Ram Bahadur Kuruwang, the curfew order will be in place for three days and can be extended further if the situation gets worse. “After witnessing COVID-19 transmission at a community level, the curfew has been enforced from Sunday.”

After detecting COVID-19 cases among residents in Tribhuvan Chowk area, Internal Revenue Department and the District Court, the local administration imposed a curfew to curb further spread of COVID-19.

On the first day of curfew, major cities like Nepalgunj and Kohalpur looked deserted. While businesses have remained shut, vehicles are off the road. A large number of security personnel have been deployed in the area to effectively implement the curfew.

Meanwhile, nine more people including a doctor have tested positive for the COVID-19 in Banke district on Sunday.
